Your Cappadocia private red tour begins at 09:30 with a pick-up from your Cappadocia hotel. First, we head to Uçhisar Castle, the highest rock formation in Cappadocia. From this natural fortress, enjoy panoramic views and learn from your guide how this extraordinary landscape came into existence.
Next, the tour continues to the Göreme Open Air Museum. Here, your guide provides a detailed overview of this Byzantine complex of churches before giving you time to explore the impressive rock-hewn churches dating from the 10th to the 12th centuries. Admire the beautifully painted frescoes that tell famous biblical stories and provide insight into the post-iconoclastic Byzantine art period.
After lunch, we visit Avanos, a charming town known for its cobbled streets and views over the Kızılırmak River. This river’s red silt has been used for centuries in pottery, making Avanos a center of ceramic craftsmanship since Hittite times. Enjoy a kick-wheel pottery demonstration and try your hand at this traditional craft.
Our tour then leads us to Paşabağı, or Monk’s Valley, where we see the famous mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys and St. Simeon’s monk cell carved into the rock. At Devrent Valley, also known as Imagination Valley, marvel at the hoodoo formations that resemble various animals, including the famous camel rock formation.
The Cappadocia private red tour concludes with a visit to Çavuşin village to explore old Greek houses abandoned in 1924 during the Greek/Turkish population exchange following the Lausanne Treaty. On the return journey, we stop to admire the Ürgüp fairy chimney family, an iconic symbol of Cappadocia.
