Our Cappadocia private green tour begins at 09:30 with a pick-up from your Cappadocia hotel. First, we drive to the Göreme panoramic viewpoint where your guide provides an overview of Cappadocia’s history and the formation of its unique landscape.
Next, we visit Derinkuyu Underground City, previously known as Melagobia. As one of the largest underground settlements in Cappadocia, Derinkuyu features an impressive 8-level underground city that is the deepest in the region. We will explore this fascinating underground complex, with your guide explaining how people once took refuge here to escape persecution. With a depth of approximately 60 meters, Derinkuyu could shelter about 20,000 people along with their livestock and food stores. It is Turkey’s largest excavated underground city and connects to Kaymakli Underground City via an 8 km tunnel.
Following our exploration of Derinkuyu, we proceed to one of Türkiye’s most spectacular gorges: Ihlara Valley. We descend about 400 steps to the valley floor, where we will hike approximately 4 km along the Melendiz River. This scenic walk takes us past Byzantine rock-hewn chapels adorned with vibrant frescoes, with the Ağaçaltı Church being a notable highlight. Near Belisirma village, we will enjoy lunch at a riverside restaurant.
After lunch, our Cappadocia private green tour takes us to Selime Monastery, the largest rock-cut cathedral in Cappadocia, located at the end of Ihlara Valley. Used as a fortress by both Byzantine and Seljuk armies during the 10th to 12th centuries, Selime Monastery offers magnificent views.
Our final stop provides insight into the precious and semi-precious stones of the Cappadocia region. On our return journey, we visit Pigeon Valley near Uçhisar, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Güvercinlik Valley and see numerous pigeon houses and nests.
The Cappadocia private green tour concludes with a drive back to your hotel, finishing around 17:00.
